Beloved 365 Devotions for Young Women {Review}

Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women

Zondervan has a beautiful new devotional to help your daughter’s grow in her faith:  Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women.

Having three Daughters I am always on the lookout for ways to encourage them to grow as women of God. In today’s world so much is thrown at them that tells them they are not good enough, smart enough, or pretty enough. They are bombarded daily with images and words that speak death and not life into their little hearts.

Throughout the 365 devotions, young women are drawn into the heart of God’s word as they read through short devotions that remind them to believe they are who God says they are. The devotions are short and relevant to today’s culture. They touch on topics like: Godly dating, relationships, friendships, bullying, dealing with grief, making good choices.

Beloved focuses on a handful of books from the bible and uses stories from women such as Ruth, Esther, Mary and Abigail to help young women see themselves in Gods bigger story. This beautiful book is targeted for ages 13-18 and because of some of the topics it covers I believe this age range is appropriate.

I love that the book is small enough to throw in a bag or a purse so that it can be taken with you. The days are marked 1 through 365, which I love, because with books that have dates I inevitably get behind and feel like a failure! Each day begins with a scripture to read. {I always recommend to my children actually looking up the scripture in their own bibles so that they can see the complete context.} Then comes the short devotion and a small area for journaling at the bottom.

Beloved devotions for teens

I will just be honest and say that I have never really loved devotional books like this because when I sit down to get in God’s word, I want more meat to my studies. I think this book falls into that same category for me, but If you have a daughter that you are trying to get into God’s word more, then this would be a great jumping off point.

It would also make a great gift for a preteen or teen girl in your life that you would like to encourage.

I would recommend having her start with opening her Bible to the scripture passage for the day. Teach her how to pray and ask the Lord to open her eyes to the truths of his word. Then read through the scripture thoughtfully, and taking notes of any questions or thoughts that may arise. Then after reading through the devotion, journal her thoughts. The Beloved devotion has a few lines at the bottom of each page, but if your daughter is more of a writer, have her write down her thoughts and prayers in a notebook or a journal to go along with this study.
